Fiesta and Crypt Crusher Skylander Review

Fiesta was the first Skylander that cuaght my eye who didn’t come with the starter set for Skylanders Superchargers. A horn slinging mariachi skeleton was too cool to pass of. So how does he and his vehicle stack up? Let’s take a look.

Fiesta

To start with, Fiesta is one of the coolest Skylanders I have ever seen. The attention to detail from his skull cap that acts as a helmet, to his horn, and even to the spurs on his boots all give him a complete look.

In game however, Fiesta is a notably weaker character at close range. Despite a horn that can blow notes at enemies, neither the continuous stream of notes nor his solo notes deal much damage at all. In fact, despite his seemingly close nature, Fiesta is a Skylander who is far better at staying away from enemies. That’s because his ability to summon little mini skeletons as part of his mariachi amigo ensemble is far more devastating.

character

Not as strong as he appears

Fiesta continued:

While Fiesta isn’t capable of much damage, the amigos can really stack up on damage. In many ways, the amigos act like dots (damage over type spells). When all three are on the screen, Fiesta’s damage really adds up. As it currently sits, Fiesta’s horn hits for 18; meanwhile, each additional mariachi amigo hits between 18-30. When all three are on screen, Fiesta is capable of massive damage, without them, though he is in big trouble. How you utilize him is not always easy. There’s a good amount of skill you have to apply to make sure he stays alive while avoiding enemies.

It seems the designers were aware of Fiesta’s weak ability so one of his first upgrades is the ability to “laid low.” It’s at this point he becomes hidden and takes reduced damage. It’s not altogether useful, but if your mariachi is doing all the work, there’s no reason to not go into this stance.

Two Skills Tress: One Answer
Fiesta’s first skill tree is the only real choice in all of this. This skill tree gives the amigos damage boosts and speed boosts, along with the ability to summon five amigos instead of three. Because the amigos are Fiesta’s only real way to sustain dealing high damage, this tree is the only real answer as far as I’m concerned.

The other skill tree emphasizes Fiesta as a solo artist. Additional experience, money and food is great, as is the ability to pierce enemies with solo notes. The final ability in this tree causes the amigos to explode. I could see this skill tree’s usefulness; however, because the amigos are so devastating, it’s hard to recommend this over making your Amigos stronger.

His Soul Gem Ability

Fiesta’s soul gem ability is called Family Fiesta. It’s a pretty essential tool because it’s the only distance attack he gets. Just holding down the alternate attack button causes a non-stop stream of amigos to attack the enemies. The enemies run in a straight line and, like his other attack, don’t deal much damage. But because of the distance it covers, it’s essential. More often that not I am using Family Fiesta over going into “Laid Low.”

Crypt Crusher

As for Fiesta’s vehicle, it’s a sufficient vehicle. Aesthetically, it’s awesome, but in game, it’s okay. It pales in comparison to the devastation of a vehicle like Hot Streak. His bullet attacks are okay; however, he can launch his mariachi amigos to deal damage over time to the enemy. It’s good, but not amazing. As for the vehicle’s upgrades, they’re awesome. Turning your vehicle from a coffin to a mummy inspired sarcophagus is maybe the coolest vehicle transformation in the game.

Side Mission:

As with any Supercharger you get, you get a side mission which involves collecting notes. This is definitely one of the hardest Superchargers missions to date. Big thumbs up.

Figurines

Let’s take a minute and talk about the figurine quality. Fiesta might be one of the best made Skylanders to date. The attention to detail is staggering. From his belt, to his spurs,  to the wrinkles on his pants, to the embellishments on his horn and hat, it all looks right. Furthermore, the paint job is also excellent with no noticeable bleed on the figurine anyway. Comparing Fiesta to almost any other figurine seems unfair because it’s such a huge jump in quality.

front and back

Front and Back Picture of Fiesta

Crypt Crusher too looks amazing. Everything about the vehicle stands out. From the cushion inside the coffin to the hands holding the wheels. Just  from a design stand point, Fiesta and Crypt Crusher are a no brainer for Skylander addicts.

Crypt Crusher

It’s the coolest vehicle by a mile

Verdict

Fiesta and Crypt Crusher’s short comings are obvious. Fiesta does nothing that Shot Cut didn’t do better in Trap Team, but from a design stand point, he’s so amazing that he feels essential. It’s a cross roads of a character. I doubt many players will play him differently than summoning a bunch of amigos. It’s a shame he doesn’t deal more damage because he might be more viable, as would the other skill tree. He’s a flawed character, no doubt, but he is a fun flawed character to play.

Sea Racing Action Pack Review

I cannot count the number of times I’ve been let down by the miscellaneous adventure packs. Until now, the ultimate adventure pack was Swap Force’s Tower of Time. Meanwhile Sheep Wreck Island and last year’s Midnight Museum were also highlights. The Sea Racing Action Pack is a new standard on which all Action/Adventure Packs should be judged

package

The Figurines

Before we get to the additional content the game adds, let’s talk about Deep Dive Gill Grunt and Reef Ripper. This is the fourth iteration of Gill Grunt, and seeing him again, I wasn’t particularly excited. Between the metallic variation and the sidekick Gill Runt, who needs a seventh Gill Grunt?

gill grunt

He’s just so excited this time around

Well I’m happy to report that Deep Dive Gill Grunt is wildly different from his previous incarnations. Deep Dive Gill Grunt emphasizes trident attacks and his ability to levitate off the grand via a wave. Both of these are viable attacks. The trident attack is one of the fastest attacks in the game.. Meanwhile, his wave levitation not only deals a lot of damage, but it gives Gill Grunt excellent maneuverability. It’s nice to see a Skylander who can close the gap between himself and enemies with both speed and sufficiency.

wave

His wave levitation is awesome

As for his talent skill trees, Deep Dive Gill Grunt is another huge win. I actually had a hard time making a decision about which path to follow. In one instance, Storm Summoner making his trident more powerful by fusing it with lightning. That said, Torrent Tamer gives his wave more range and damage. Both skill trees are amazing, but no matter which skill tree you choose, the subsequent damage and viability is a massive boon that’s hard to compare. This is the best Gill Grunt has ever been, and he is now one of the top tier water Skylanders in the game.

lightning

I went with Storm Summoner. Just look at all the lightning!

As for Reef Ripper, it’s a viable water craft with excellent mods. Its singular attack is decent, but nothing to write home about; however, the area of effect damage attack is pretty spectacular. In 360 degree water sections, Reef Ripper is devastating. It fends of enemies with ease, while in racing mode, it shines when enemies cluster around you.

reef 2

From a design standpoint, Reef Ripper is a crowning achievement

Supercharger Mission

As for his Supercharger Mission, you’ll enjoy this tough mission of trying to catch fish. As players race around the Golden Temple, they have to acquire fish of different values. While it’s easy to score the 1 and 2 star victories, most players will have a tough time getting that elusive third star (100k points). It’s one of the best missions from what players have seen so far.

The Quality

With all that in mind, I cannot emphasize enough how amazing these two figurines look. Gill Grunt is the first Skylander, in series history, to make his base a part of the figurine. It’s one of the smartest and coolest designs ever conceived. But that’s nothing when compared to Reef Ripper.

figurines

You need to see these figurines in person to appreciate their beauty

Reef Ripper is a 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Captain Nemo inspired vehicle. You need to hold his figurine to appreciate its quality. Aesthetically, it’s gorgeous. But the swivel in the tale, the colors and the drill embellishments all stand out. This is Skylanders crowning achievement in design. Both Gill Grunt and Reef Ripper are a benchmark on which all subsequent Skylander figurines shall be judged. It’s an extraordinary achievement.

The Additional Content

Unlike previous Skylander Adventure Packs which added in more content with levels, this time the Sea Racing Action Pack adds additional racing levels. The two additional levels are Tropic Plunder and The Golden Temple.

tropic

Tropic Plunder aerial view.

They might be the two best racing levels in Superchargers thus far. The air and land levels are fun diversions, but the water levels remind me of Diddy Kong Racing. Traversing the water while watching for speed boosts and items underwater is a unique experience. The grandeur of both additional levels is unparallel.
golden

The Golden Temple looks epic

Tropic Plunder has players flying over volcanoes and diving under pirate ships, while the Golden Tower has players getting significant air time with frequent jumps and boosts. I love the additional levels, and while they’re not worth the price alone, they’re another excellent reason why the Sea Racing Action Pack is a worthy addition.

Verdict

If you own Superchargers, buy the Sea Racing Action Pack. It might be the best additional content released to date. From a collector’s standpoint, Skylanders never looked better.

Burn Rubber With Skylanders Supercharged RC Racers

Hey Addicts!

When Activision first announced that vehicles would be the gimmick of the latest installment of Skylanders I just knew RC racers would be coming it just made sense and I was right. The NYKO company who is responsible for making all kinds of third-party accessories for video games has teamed up with Activision and created some really awesome looking Skylanders Superchargers themed RC race cars.

skylanderaddictsblog

So far only two of the race cars are available to order via GameStop’s online store. The RC cars look like the vehicles we play with in the game. The Skylander that owns the vehicle is seen in the driver’s seat for example Fiesta and Crypt Crusher are used in the game to create a Supercharged vehicle and they are also used to create these sweet looking RC racers. The other character available is Spitfire and Hot Streak. They are $29.99 each which isn’t to bad of a price for an RC, but what I want to know is how they function? Are they hard to control? Can they do tricks like some of the really cool RC racers? Are they durable? Kids will be crashing these things into walls left and right will they crumble after one or two crashes forcing us to have to get a replacement? Or will they stand the test of time?

skylanderaddictsblog

I’m going to be getting both of these cars not only to review, but to play around with my son we both love toys and cars. Definitely will be having some fun with these. I am hoping that we don’t just get RC Race Cars, but also get a helicopters, planes, bikes and boats. That way we can also get a chance to use the Land, Sea, and Air concept with the RC’s.  If you are interested in owning a set of these just click this trusty link right here (Fiesta) and here (Spitfire). Until next time I’ll catch you on the SKYSIDE!

Skylanders Superchargers Misprints

Hello all how you lot keeping?

So this time round while I’ve been out hunting I came across a few error prints of the new “sky slicer” here’s a pic

image

As u can see it’s in the correct box it’s just the name that’s wrong!! In past years some collectors have went crazy for these ! Myself I’m undecided not to sure as to open it or keep it sealed. Are they going to be rare or common this time round with skylanders superchargers? I’m gonna say no not that rare as everything has been rushed to get ready for an early release this time round.

image

Here’s a pic I took while in store! I only bought 1 so there were still 2 left for others to buy.

Anyway it’s been nice to have a chat with you all again and share my new recent info even if it is just what I’ve found in my local store.

Until next time happy hunting and good luck chasing the chase figures if you are.
