Monthly Archives: September 2015
I posted most of this info on the FB page but wanted to do an updated compiled post on the expected and spotted variants from Superchargers.
We already know about Happy Thrillapede but there is another easter/spring variant coming in 2016 and it’s a vehicle! Feast your eyes on this!
Purdy isn’t it? This is Spring Dive Bomber no release date has been announced yet on either of the spring variants I will keep you all posted when I get more info. If this spring release stays true to earlier releases there is still one more unannounced spring variant. I wonder who it will be if they decide to stick to the formula?
Next up we have what I like to call Patina High Volt this is one cool looking variant first in the series to have this type of paint job.
This is what is called a chase variant. I will break the meaning of the word “chase” down further for those of you that have no clue what I am talking about in my next guide. In a nut shell this will be a very rare and hard to get figure. One that collector’s will “chase” after for years to come. I hope we will see more variants like this who do you think will be next to get a chase makeover?
Speaking of “chase” have you had the chance to catch this sweet “chase variant” while out on the hunt?
Only available in PS4 and XBox One console starter packs. These started popping up everywhere online on release day. I happened to see two of them while hunting but couldn’t afford to grab one hopefully I get lucky in a few days (fingers crossed).
Of course by now most of you know that there will be a Legendary Sky Racing Action Pack which will include the Sky Trophy, Legendary Astroblast and the Legendary Sun Runner. We also know that it is exclusive to Toys r Us stores. What we don’t know is when the action pack will officially be released.
There have been sightings of this pack in Denmark, so hopefully we will see this new racing pack in US stores soon. You can see a pretty nice unboxing video from MySkylanders.De on YouTube via their channel. Take a look when you get a chance if you haven’t already.
The second Nitro variant in this series will be Nitro Soda Skimmer. Of course this will be another Target exclusive here in the US no release date has been announced either.
I am a big fan of the Nitro series instantly fell in love with these variants with the release of Nitro Magna Charge in Swap Force. Since then a set of Nitro figures has come with every release like the Legendary and Dark figures. Nitro Stealth Stinger has already been released, but my question is will there be a Nitro Skylander figure to match the vehicle? One can only hope so.
Last but not least the best news to me is that we will see what is being called “Power Blue” variants of Splat, her vehicle, and my fave tech lander Trigger Happy’s vehicle. There is no release date, but from the images we can see that they will be in-game variants. No store has announced that they are going to be carrying these variants, but I have a sneaky suspicion that we may see these in Walmart stores as their Exclusive variant much like Target and TRU. I sure hope we get a Power Blue Trigger Happy to match his vehicle as well.
Man that was a mouthful! Hope you all have gotten your fix today from all this info if not I suppose you could go in for another filling lol! What variants listed are you looking forward to adding to your collection? Some of you may have wondered where the wave 2 Skylander figures are or when will they be released. Well I can only answer one of those questions sort of. If you were lucky enough to get a Nightfall figure you may have come into the issue of the figure not working on the portal. According to sources the figure has been recalled due to this issue, which also leads me to believe that other wave 2 characters were also held back to make sure the same issue was not happening with any of the other toys.
This is the official response from Activision:
Question: My Nightfall toy is not Registering in Skylanders Superchargers. What’s happening?
Answer: Since the launch of Skylanders in 2011 Activision has been committed to delivering high-quality toys to our consumers. It has come to our attention That our software is unable to recognize the Skylanders Superchargers Dark Element character Nightfall. As a result, we stopped shipment of a majority of the toys Before They arrived at retail. We will be reissuing the toy as soon as Possible, and consumers Should find Nightfall on shelves before the end of the year.
If you have received a non-functional version of the Nightfall toy, please call 1-844-HELP-EON for assistance from Activision. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause Skylanders fans.
This is the first time in Skylanders history that a recall has been issued. This isn’t the first time portal masters have had issues with a figure unfortunately it happens. There is good news though if you downloaded the Day 1 patch it fixes the issue. Bad news for Wii players there is no patch which is why some are assuming that is the reason figures still were recalled.
You can read more about the Day 1 Patch here.
If you are one of the unlucky folks to have gotten a faulty Nightfall and the patch still hasn’t fixed it call the help line and see what can be done to solve the issue. Until next time I’ll catch you on the SKYSIDE!
I saw this on myskylanders.de and thought I would share it with you. There seemed to be a few issues with the game so an update was issued. Here is a detailed breakdown of everything the patch is suppose to fix.

How has your super charging been going? Hopefully it has gone well. Today I got a surprise package in the mail courtesy of Prima Games. I opened the box to find that there were copies of the collector’s edition of the latest strategy guide.
First and foremost this thing has some weight to it. As with the previous collector edition guides this too has a hardcover binding with a shiny foil finish.
Included with the guide is a limited edition variant cover Skylanders comic book from IDW publishing. Looks like the only way to get this variant cover is by buying the collector’s guide or having some really nice friends.
The guide is 288 pages of Skylanders goodness you can find detailed info about all the Superchargers, villains, and their vehicles, learn how to improve your Skylanders and vehicles, get step by step instructions on how to beat each level, and learn all kinds of cool tips.
But wait that’s not all! You will also get to know more about Skystones Overdrive, Racing mode, get lists of all the hats, trinkets, achievements, trophies, and so much more!
Also included is a free eGuide valued at $10. The eGuide includes interactive maps and videos that can be played on any tablet or mobile device. Definitely will come in handy when you looking for a certain item/treasure or can’t seem to clear a level. All you have to do to get a copy of the eGuide is input the provided code at primagames.com/code and you are set.
Priced at $34.99 US, $39.99 CAN, £19.99 UK, and $49.95 AUS this is an amazing guide definitely a must have for all you addicts and collectors out there. Everything you need to know about the game is there and if it’s missing something it wasn’t that important anyway (LOL!). Seriously though I don’t think there is much more they could have added.
Great job Prima Games on making this awesome guide! Don’t have the guide yet and want to be the proud owner of one of these beauties? Well check this out! Thanks to the wonderful people at Prima I’m giving away one of these guides on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. That’s 4 chances for you to win! Be on the look out for more details. A little while back Activision announced the release of more holiday variants Frightful Fiesta just in time for the Halloween season and Happy (Easter Bunny) Thrillipede.
Which got me to thinking about all the holiday variants that have been released thus far. Some were not well accepted and had become shelf warmers, while others are in the rare and hard to find category.
I decided to put together a quick reference guide for all of you that are just jumping into the Skylanders universe and or just maybe wondering how many holiday variants have been released thus far.
So without further ado I present to you Skylander Addicts Beginner’s Guide To Collecting Skylanders Holiday And Seasonal Variants.
So what is a variant? A variant is a version or form of something that differs in some way from other forms of the same thing.
Comic books, magazines, toys and even food products have been known to have different flavors or packaging of the same product.
For example for those of you that have been reading the Skylanders comic book series you have noticed that there are always two different covers with every issue. One is the regular cover and the other is the variant cover.
Normally there is no difference content wise between the books. They are just done in different color schemes, are drawn by different artists, or have some sort of theme/gimmick attached to them.
A holiday variant is a variant that has a holiday theme attached to it. For example Halloween Oreo’s they are just regular Oreo’s with orange cream and Halloween packaging making it a variant or holiday edition of Oreos.
A seasonal variant is very similar to a holiday variant sometimes a holiday variant is also considered a seasonal variant. A seasonal variant has a seasonal theme attached to it. For example Football, Baseball, winter, spring, etc. you get the point.
Skylanders Holiday and Seasonal variants began with the Giants series and have been apart of the franchise since. Below is a list of all the holiday variants that have been released thus far.
Pumpkin Eye Brawl
Pumpkin Eye-Brawl was released late after the Giants game was released. It is labeled as a Halloween Edition figure, but it was released in early September right before Swap-Force was released.
It was the first holiday variant introduced to the Skylanders series. This figure was available in most stores and was said to have a limited quantity, but for some reason it lingered around for a while after its release.
Personally I think it was because it is not an in-game variant meaning the variant figure does not show up as a variant in the Skylanders game. Instead it looks like regular Eye-Brawl but is listed as a special figure when placed into play.
Easter Edition Legendary Lightcore Chill
This was the first Easter Edition figure released only overseas in the UK. The only difference between this version and the regular version is the packaging. The figure is exactly the same as the one released at Toys R Us stores.
This figure is very hard to find. The only way to add this figure to your collection is by trading with another collector or finding it online by chance.
Halloween/Pumpkin Fright Rider
Halloween or Pumpkin Fright Rider was apart of the Skylanders Frito-Lay promotion. To take part in the promotion you had to acquire a game code by way of purchasing a specially marked bag of Frito Lays chips or requesting a game code by way of self-addressed stamped envelope.
It was pretty much impossible to not win a figure when the promotion started. After a bunch of people leaked code info and the codes became available to pretty much anybody winning became a lot harder.
If you didn’t get your hands on one of these during the promotion the only way to get one now is from a third-party seller and some of them are asking for crazy prices so shop at your discretion as always.
Jolly Bumble Blast
Jolly Bumble Blast was the Swap Force holiday variant released during Christmas of 2013. It was available at all retailers, but there was a very limited quantity.
When it was originally released it was easy to add him to your collection. Now that it has sold out in stores you will have to go the second-hand route.
Springtime Trigger Happy
Springtime Trigger Happy was included in the first seasonal/holiday set of variants released in the Swap Force series. This figure hit stores Easter of 2014 along with Fryno and Punk Shock.
It was not a store exclusive so it was readily available on shelves of different retailers.
Flocked Springtime Trigger Happy
Now this is a gem in the Skylanders world. This is one special variant for a few reasons. It was first brought to our attention as a Target promotion in Australia.
They gave away 25 of them. It later was a Toys R Us promotion in the US with only one figure per store. Some stores didn’t even receive it! If you were lucky enough to get it in store you were one happy camper that day.
The coolest thing about this figure besides it being fuzzy is that it’s the first variant of a variant. No other figure like it has been released since. A boxed version of this figure has also been spotted.
Easter/Spring Edition Fryno
There is nothing special about this figure except the packaging. He looks exactly like the figure that was released in the regular Swap Force packaging. You can still find these hanging around in some Walgreens and 5 Below stores.
Easter/Spring Edition Punk Shock
Released along side Springtime Trigger Happy and Fryno this figure only appeared in store in its Easter package for a long time. It later was released in a regular single pack. If you are a completest you probably own them both (I know I do). She recently has been found in her regular packaging at 5 Below stores.
Kickoff Countdown was a variant that came out during the 2014 World Cup.
This is not a holiday variant, but instead it is a seasonal variant not really much of a difference though as they both celebrate something.
When this variant was first released they were everywhere heck here in Ohio you may still find a straggler lying around, but for the most part they can only be found in the second-hand market.
Winterfest Lobstar was the first holiday/seasonal figure released with Trap Team. He is the Christmas variant as most of you can guess from the name. Surprisingly he was a shelf warmer for a little while not sure why as it a really cool variant.
Maybe it was because he isn’t a very popular character. He is the only Trap Master to receive a Holiday make over in the series.
Love Potion Pop Fizz
This figure was released to celebrate Valentines Day of 2015. This is one of my favorite variants I love the color scheme and it just fit the character perfectly.
You can still find this figure in store at Toys R Us and other retailers like Walmart, but not heavily in stock so get it while you can.
This is my favorite of all the variants for a few reasons one I love the fire element and two Weeruptor is freaking awesome! The colors used on this variant and the name was an instant win in my book.
This figure was released in a set including Power Punch Pet Vac (another mini) and a trap to celebrate spring and the 2015 Easter Holiday, so this is both a seasonal and holiday variant.
Not only are the figures and trap different they also come in a special Easter themed packaging. These were not exclusive to any store when they were released. You may get super lucky and find a stray hanging around somewhere, but your best bet in finding this is on EBay or Amazon.
Power Punch Pet Vac
As I stated above this is the other mini released in the spring/Easter set. He was thought be released in a red and gold color scheme from the promotional image that was posted online.
We got a surprise when it officially released as it was not red and gold, but red and black. Many of us wondered why they chose to change the colors it is still a mystery to this day. Power Punch and Eggscellent are the only minis to receive a variant makeover.
This is the only trap to receive a holiday/seasonal variant makeover in the Trap Team series. Colored to look like a bunny this was the coolest trap to be released next to the legendary traps. I would say that this is a hard to find item now but when it was released they were everywhere.
Well folks we have come to the end of the road. I hope this helps you out in some way, shape or form. I’ll be adding this info to a reference page in the future so that you can use it at anytime and not have to scroll through posts or look through the archives.
Who is your favorite holiday/seasonal themed variant? Let me know by taking the poll/survey or by leaving a comment. Does anyone want to guess what Sunday is? Is it the day that Ferdinand Magellan set sail for the first time?
The birthday of Sophia Loren? Could it be the anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival?
Actually, it is all of those things. However, to a Skylander Addict, it is something else completely. It is the day that so many have been anxiously awaiting for what, I’m sure, feels like an eternity. It is the date that Activision is going to (finally) release Skylanders SuperChargers.
“Remember when you were a kid and pretended that your toy cars came to life, zooming around your living room on the most epic racetracks of your imagination?” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “Well, we are about to bring that fantasy one step closer to life with Skylanders SuperChargers. We are reimagining toys-to-life by bringing race cars to life, along with helicopters, motorcycles, jet planes and submarines, as you race through Skylands and compete against other players for the first time. Our fans are going to love playing this game. I know I do.”
As if this wasn’t exciting enough, Skylanders recently joined forces with Max Chilton, just in time for the season finale of Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires. Chilton is a fan of the franchise, and recently raced a Skylanders themed race car.
Read more about the release here. If you have lived underneath a rock recently, or maybe absent mindedly made other plans, be sure that you don’t forget to stop in and pick up your starter packs on Sunday. Grab some extra figures and vehicles while you are there too. Feed the Skylanders Beast! 😉
To celebrate the arrival of Skylanders SuperChargers and the addition of racing to the franchise, Skylanders became the official partner of racing champion Max Chilton for the season finale of Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires.
Chilton, a 24-year-old former Formula 1 driver and fan of the Skylanders franchise, blazed the tracks of Laguna Seca in a Skylanders-themed race car on September 12-13.
“SuperCharged” Chilton shattered Tony Kaanan’s 1997 track record in the qualifying race, broke the race lap record set by Helio Castroneves in 1996 and ended the season on the Indy Lights podium for Carlin.
Skylanders also “SuperCharged” Enea Bastianini from the Gresini Racing Team to take the win at the San Marino and Riviera di Rimini GP in Italy, his first career victory in the Moto 3 World Championship. Bastianini will take to the track again in his Skylanders SuperChargers-branded race suit at the Aragon Grand Prix in Spain onSeptember 25-27.
Skylanders SuperChargers Racing, a complementary racing experience, will be available on September 20 for Nintendo’s Wii™ system for $74.99 MSRP and the Nintendo 3DS™ hand-held system for $64.99 MSRP. The addition of Donkey Kong and Bowser as guest stars in the new game, along with their specially created vehicles, will be available exclusively in Skylanders SuperChargers and Skylanders SuperChargers Racing Starter Packs for the Nintendo platforms. The SuperCharged characters not only work in Skylanders SuperChargers, but will also work with select amiibo-compatible Nintendo games with a simple twist of the character’s base.
I recently got my hardcover version of the latest Skylanders comic titled “Rift Into Overdrive”. The cover art looks fantastic and the story so far is pretty sweet. The book starts with Skylanders enjoying some down time at the Academy partaking in a carnival. Kaos is showing off his good side since he has been captured and forced to be rehabilitated, but is Kaos trying to pull a fast one over on the Skylanders? Take a look at the preview images and tell me what you think.
Want more? Then you will have to get yourself a copy to see what Kaos and Glumshanks are up to. If you haven’t already pre-ordered and are looking to add this book to your collection, just click the link to Midtown Comics and they will take care of you.
Personally I buy most of my comics from Midtown. They have great prices, awesome customer service, and shipping is BOOMTASTIC! Until next time I’ll catch you on the SKYSIDE!
